An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that provides information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle – from raw material extraction to production, use and disposal. The purpose of the EPD is to help consumers make informed decisions about the choice of products, taking into account their environmental impact
An EPD usually contains the following pieces of information:
- Product description: information on the product itself, its composition and functions.
- Production process: Information on raw material extraction, production methods and energy consumption.
- Use: How the product is used and its performance characteristics.
- Waste and recycling: Information on how the product is disposed of or recycled after use.
- Environmental impact: Description of the impact of the product on air, water and land, as well as possible emissions and waste.
